This Black Friday is like World War Wallet.
Except it’s 100,000 brands against your wallet.
Now full disclosure, I do email marketing for ecommerce brands. I’m part of the problem.
That said.
Why is it so LIFELESS and STALE this year?
Where’s the HERE’S SOME GOOD MF DEALS energy?
WHERE ARE THE GOOD MF DEALS IN THE FIRST PLACE?
There’s no excitement anymore. Low energy all around.
Yeah yeah, economies are cooked worldwide and all that. It makes sense that no one cares about this soulless consumerist event.
But I also believe people are starting to realize buying hundreds of dollars in useless crap is stupid.
In general people are full of crap they haven’t touched twice since they bought it.
Don’t believe me? In 2019 there were 47,500 storage unit locations. Each with an average of 546 individual storage spaces.
In 2025 there are around 52,301.
That is MILLIONS of individual storage units.
The self storage industry in the US ALONE is valued at $44.3 billion BILLION (as in 44,300,000,000.00) in 2024.
That’s a lot of people looking for a place to store their crap.
Not to say I am “holier than thou.” (You’ll find out shortly how this is the opposite)
As a greedy human living in the most consumerist society the world has ever seen in history it’s kinda hard not to buy.
But this year I settled for upgrading the audio equipment and getting some business related stuff.
And that’s something that’s going to be prevalent next year: Finding ENOUGH.
It’s going to be a challenge. The Scarcity Brain is wired to ALWAYS find more, faster, better.
That said, it IS possible to find “enough”
It starts by figuring out what “a lot” is.
Yes, there is a process you have to go through to find that out.
Seeing what you already have is a good starting point.
Setting a limit is a good second step. It wont stop you from going ham but it will help you see how much of a problem something is.
For example: A couple of years ago I discovered the world of Board Games after playing a game of mexican monopoly (yeah. It doesn’t take much).
And in classic Crackhead Hz fashion…
I bought 110 Board Games in the span of a year.
If you don’t think that’s bad. The first 50 games were bought in the first 3 months.
AND I haven’t played or opened 80 of them.
It took a year for me to realize that:
A. I don’t have friends to play with.
B. The rare occasions when I kidnapped enough people to play games we would cycle the same 5 games.
C. Most mf games ain’t that worth it.
Is it an expensive mistake I have to look at every day?
Sure.
Except I wouldn’t call it a mistake more than a lesson on my own behavior.
Thanks to that experience I know that newfound crack hifi audio obsession will last a (very expensive) year.
And that once the year goes by I’ll go “okay, that’s enough of that.”
(Which will start the countdown for the next mega addiction once the 3 year cycle renews)
Now if you’re the type of person that has many expensive hobbies…
Slowly find the “enough” in them. One at a time.
You’ll be surprised how fulfilling it is to be content and grateful with what you have.
That won’t apply to music though.
No matter how much you listen to there’s always MORE, BETTER, FASTER.
It’s a problem of its own but not a bad one to have.
Music is one of the few things in life that get better with every iteration.
Can’t say that for most crap today. It’s all built with planned obsolesce in mind.
Tech is the worst offender. It gets worse every year. An “upgrade” ends up being obsolete in 6 months lmfao. Battery life is also 10 times worse.
And that’s the magical thing about music. It’s one of the few “timeless” things coming out today.
Take for example this song from Canadian Cretin ANGELZ.
This one is a song that:
Still sounds good after 7 years.
Has some really fun production
Is genere ambigous
Has very relevant lyrics
You likley haven’t heard before.
Njoy.
Genre: I couldn’t tell you bro. I just can’t get enough of it.
Always Striving for Enough Forward
