The best museum in the world.
It's about something with wheels.
Today, we went to the Railway Museum in Kyoto. (Trust me, it has to do with music)
Now when you think “Railway museum” you imagine a simple museum with some trains and that’s it.
Well… Not in Japan.
The museum was HUGE and had EVERYTHING about trains.
I’m talking full-scale trains, a factory section, a ticket-buying experience, a steam locomotive ride upsell, and many, many other things.
It made no sense how trains were that important until actually reading the expos (kinda how museums work… I think)
Here’s the just of it:
Trains transformed Japan from an isolated country to a financial and industrial powerhouse in just a couple of years.
They united the country, helped in wars, and boosted the economy to become one of the wealthiest nations.
It was very eye-opening to see the power of trains firsthand.
Now, of course, that’s mostly because America has a NON-existent transit system.
Before you raise your first in anger, let’s stop lying to ourselves. We’re not even trying back in the States. A single looping bus -everything we really get in Miami- does not qualify as “public transport.”
And as much as I’d like to talk about how Trains are the SUPERIOR transport method, this is an email about MUSIC (watch how I’m connecting this, lol)
Regardless, I’ve experienced the power of trains these past 14 days. Getting ANYWHERE without a car has been a truly magical experience.
Sure, it takes a bit to get used to, but after some time, you see train stations as powerful magical portals that take you where you need to go.
In the same way music takes you to the feeling you want to get.
Let’s be honest: most of the time, music triggers an emotion we want to express.
If you want to feel happy you play the ol reliable.
If you want to feel sad you pull out the sad song playlist that somehow has a concerning amount of energetic songs.
When you want to get energy at the gym you look up “Gym playlist” and play whatever has the least cringe name and devil emojis (they’re all made by Russians).
Heck, Spotify even has categories for this stuff because it WORKS. Music is one of the few forms of art that can EASILY trigger emotions.
So just like a simple steam engine locomotive can change a country…
A good song can change your life.
That is our mission, to help you find that one song.
Of course, unless we speak one-on-one, we can’t really give you the silver bullet, so we send something that’s good and has impacted us.
“Find your treasure within our trash” is more than just fancy words.
So enjoy today’s chune, no promises but it could very well be the song you play when you want to feel awe and wonder.
None other than Jon Hopkins. I know I had him on yesterday, but come on, singularity is a PHENOMENAL album, you’re missing out if you haven’t heard it.
This one feels like a story. Everything about this song feels alive; it’s very weird to explain, so I’ll just let you find out for yourself what emotions this triggers in you.
Njoy.
