The only type of music you should use for work.
It's not electronic.
If you are a student or use music for work, I got bad news.
This may be unsurprising, but not all music is equal when it comes to focusing on work.
And while the following comments will be sacrilegious (Hyperoxia will entirely disagree), it’s important to say it.
80%* Of electronic music SUCKS for focusing.
*The 20% is ambient, and some ultra-select types of house made explicitly for focusing lmao.
Let me explain.
Even while great at many things, the brain can only focus on one thing at a time.
“But music isn’t a thing to focus on. It’s played in the background!”
Yes, but listening to music is still a brain process that consumes bandwidth.
Now, unless you have some ultra brain, listening to the average electronic music song will be more of a distraction than opening youtube “for a quick video”.
Don’t believe me? Put a timer for 30 minutes, listen to any song we’ve sent before and try focusing.
Then try playing today's song and see the difference. If you don’t notice one feel free to call me out as a schizo bum, I deserve it.
Of course, not listening to music is the best way to work, but come on, this is a music newsletter, lol.
My biased recommendation based on research and testing? Baroque music.
The second option (if you want something more modern and exciting) is today’s song from Brain.fm.
It’s the only type of complex electronic music that helps with focus instead of taking away from it.
The reason being their science magic (they explicitly say “don’t call it binaural beats which, lol)
I’ve been using it whenever I procastinate until last day and need a quick turnaround I need to do essential work and it’s better than anything out there.
The only unfortunate part is that it does come with a paywall, which I’ve gladly paid for two years in exchange for laser-like focus.
BUT, I believe on “try it to believe it” which is why you can get a free month by clicking here ← it’s a referral link. Here’s the main site if you don’t want to be involved brain.fm.
I don’t recommend or send things that won’t make a difference in your life. Music is one of those things that can genuinely improve your life.
Let’s be honest: Work will make up 60% of your life unless you're unemployed forever. You may as well find ways to enjoy it and be productive.
You can find more about brain.fm in the P.S. section, but for now…
Njoy focusing.
Genre: Binaural Electronic.
Always Focused Forward
Hz
P.S. This is what the UI looks like. It has music for sleeping, relaxing, and focusing. The sleeping one is amazing as well, but I mainly brain.fm for focus, lol.

It used to be an 80-week streak. But then Japan happened…
It’s genuinely unlike any other type of music; everything in it is enjoyable, and there are also sounds if music gets too annoying, It's the best focus DJ ever.
