🍱 Delicacy of the Day

Bwi Bwi - Insight

Can’t explain why but despite this being a chaotic week I’ve been gravitating more towards melodic and groovy tracks.

There’s also the theme that’s going on so maybe that’s why.

Regardless, this is by French Freak Bwi-Bwi.

We’ve been sending a lot of these “assorted repetition” tracks but I’ve realized that some of the best songs are simple.

This is one of those fun beach tracks you can put on and enjoy the moment while the song plays in the background.

It doesn’t demand much attention while still rewarding you if you choose to give it the time of day.

Overall it’s a song that’s been aging finely since its original release in 2017.

And most importantly, a joyous song that can get you in a better mood

Njoy.

💭 Quick Drivel

For the next 29 days I’ll be exploring the ridiculous trip from last year

I didn’t have time to write it when it happened. So why not take advantage of Nostalgia Year to re-live some memories, eh?

If you don’t mind or care (no blame there), enjoy the hand-picked songs that made up this trip a lot more special. They’re even better than the amazing stuff we regularly send.

This was my second to last full day in Japan. There were a handful of things missing from the itinerary.

So without further ado:

  1. Nijo Castle

I made it to a tour for the castle.

The shogunate used the castle for hundreds of years.

It was the main diplomatic center and the most impressive part about it was the different rooms they used.

So the place where you wanted to make a threat was filled with pictures of a poisnous trees and tigers.

And since they didn’t know what tigers looked like they just had these comical looking tigers.

The emperors room had a peacock and a tree that symbolized longevity.

They didn’t allow photogaraphy inside so unfortunately there are no pictures to show you

The coolest thing was the singing bird tiles that made noise at the slightest step. They built this to alert them to any assassins.

The guide also talked about the end of the shogunate and how after 250 years of Tokugawa rule, America pulled up with demanding the end of their current government style to implement some form of real leadership.

Also how Japan has no more gold after mining it all and using it for vanity projects.

It’s a very eye opening experience and I highly recommend doing the tour experience.

Here are some pictures from the outside:

  1. Inari Taisha Shrine

The plan was to pay the tourist dues and visit the shrine with the thousands of torii gates again.

My legs were killing me and taking the roughly 12,000 step journey was not in the plans.

…so when I got to the peak I started to think that maybe I was full of it.

Regardless, the view was worth it.

And man, the craftmanship on these gates is stunning.

I can’t imagine the amount of effort it takes to build these structures on a mountain. Some of the logistics in this place are unexplainable.

From here I tried making it to the goshuin but arrived too late.

Oh well, a mission for next time then.

Honestly, it was a miracle I made it that far.

I also found this amazing sign.

(The thing was still full of trash.)

However, it was starting to look like rain, so I started heading down the mountain.

On the way down, lightning struck a lightning rod right in front of me. The most primal fear activated and to this day it was one of the scariest experiences..

Once I made it down to the base of the temple it started pouring and I went to a chopstick store for refuge.

Got some cool ass chopsticks while there and left shortly after

  1. Dog cafe

Yeah yeah, these get a negative rep for being horrible places.

My reasoning was that I saw one the day before and it seemed like a relaxing experience.

And it was!

It was a litter of like 13 puppies; they all seemed genuinely cared for.

The puppies were hoes though, only giving attention to whoever had snacks.

And the problem was that they only gave you a handful of treats.

So it was a game of holding on to snacks while fighting for the attention of others.

Still, this silly experience was the perfect amount of rest after running all around. (And doing an impromptu hike.

  1. Explore more of downtown.

It was mostly just walking around. I had already found everything I wanted to so it was a matter of seeing what else was around.

In classic Hz fashion I fell for another MARKETING SCHEME.

This one was from Lindt who was giving free samples AFTER you stepped inside of the store.

From there the commitment kicked in and I proceeded to buy a whole bag of lindt chocolates full of rare flavors like…

Matcha.

Yeah… that’s the only one I remember but there was a good kilogram of lindt chocolates that had random flavors.

It came with this cooler pouch thing that melted within 20 mintues of me leaving the store.

Maybe I should add a tourist trap counter, lol.

  1. Dinner.

I went to an italian restaurant that looked interesting.

It was part of the newly made tradition of going to italian places in Japan to see their own twist on it.

And honestly?

It was pretty mid.

The pasta noodles tasted like nothing but the sauce and shrimp were fantastic.

It could have been the restaurant but so far the pizza is amazing while the pasta is a miss.

  1. Return.

I was pretty exhausted so I called it early getting home at a never-seen-before 10pm.

Is this a sign of things to come?

Not really. Tomorrow was my final full day in Japan so it was an early wakeup, lol.

Always Forward
