Sunday Singles #29

Welcome to Sunday Singles!

Every Sunday either Hyperoxia or I will send you a micro-review of a single song.

Since there was no Fridee Fire this week, why not send it today?

This song jumped at me during the “brainless music playing in the background” ritual I do to find the best release.

It has this weird aura that makes it unique. But that’s all I’ll spoil for now.

Song Info

Title: Caribou - Honey

Release Date: 10/4/24

Runtime: 3:58

Artist Lore

Caribou is yet another British Creature furthering the chokehold this faction has over Sunday Singles.

What makes Caribou different from most artists is his weird style of making music.

His core mantra is “ don't forget you're making music first and foremost because you enjoy it. Yeah, his songs are fun, outright experimental and well, in my opinion hit or miss.

As always, this is a hit.

The Great

This is the weirdest groove I’ve heard in a long time. There’s a certain aspect of total chaos, brought together by this invisible string.

The drums are fun, the sounds are all over the place, and the random vocal splices keep it in check.

Something about it makes it addicting, could be that this song is a BLAST to just sit and analyze.

The second drop is where the breaks are off and the buildup eclipses into a gorgeous chorus of melody with.

I love it when songs slowly introduce things and build momentum. This one does just that without boring you out. There’s always SOMETHING going on no matter how “static” the background stays.

The one gripe with it.

This is 100% a solo listening song.

It’s definitely too experimental for the untrained ear and would sound like monotonous noise.

But this is still good electronic music. It has depth and emotion behind it. It just not something people will “dance” or “see the rhythm” to.

And that’s okay. It’s what makes it special.

Wrappin it up

Weird and fun songs like this are the essence of what makes electronic the “ultimate genre™️.

There are no limits. All you need is brain noise and a software to put it all together. There’s no other genre that lets you do that. There’s no need for instruments or vocals.

In many ways, it’s the “freedom genre".”

So without further ado…

Njoy.

Similar to it

It would be sacrilege to send anything but Back Home when talking about Caribou.

This is an absolute must listen.

This song stands the test of time and still hits hard 10 years later. The remixes by Feed Me and The Protoypes give it a fantastic spin. Would also recommend.
