Century Old Art

Only one type of art does it.

A couple of hours ago, inside Osaka Castle, the home to emperors from back in the day.

We stood in front of a Folding Screen Painting that detailed one of the COUNTLESS wars Japan has had over the years.

It was called the Summer War, and it shows in specific detail the battle that took place outside of the castle.

Everything from the expressions to the swords was carefully painted.

I wish we had taken a picture, but a security guard was always walking around with a paper sign that said: “NO PHOTOS OR PICTURES”…

Now don’t get me started on the LOGISTICS of a summer war (especially in this heat)…

But In a way, the historical paintings are a testament to the importance of artists.

Sure, you can spend hours reading about wars and battles…
…or get a pretty good idea of what happened by looking at a painting. (In this case, the Tokugawa Clan won and took over the castle)

and that is something human artists have an advantage over AI.

The context and events can only be translated into painting by either someone who is there or by someone who is watching.

You can ask the AI to “Paint the Summer War.”

It’ll probably give you SOMETHING with crudely drawn soldiers and a yellow sun, but it won’t be enough to become part of a country’s history.

It doesn’t have eyes or emotions to understand what’s going on; it follows orders and does its best.

Same thing goes for music.

No matter how good it sounds, it will miss the “effort” it takes to consider it human, it will be awed at and forgotten as quickly as it was made.

The best example is today's song.

Complex yet fantastic to listen to. There are instruments crashing and collapsing all over to make a symphony.

Tutara Peak accurately described the feeling of floating, scary, overwhelming, and yet exciting.

Songs this detailed can only be made by someone who understands instruments and their contexts.

Now I could ramble on about this, but it’s best if you hear for yourself.

Njoy.
