Clear Blue Water

The beautiful blue depths.

Welcome to Sunday Singles!

On today’s installment, join us as we visit a (somewhat) familiar sound.

Today’s song is absolutely ethereal. It combines a somewhat (and hopefully I’m not just imagining things) familiar vibe you’d find from y2k and combines it with that more modern sound design. It sounds like something out of Ibiza. Not as RAVEY, but absolutely Balearic.

Artist Lore

Now, I don’t know much about TDJ, except that she’s French (Canadian). I do however, know that she’s been pumping out incredible mixes under “SPF INFINI” showcasing many smaller artists, and even showcasing some of my favorite artists currently.

So far, every track I’ve heard across all four SPF mixes, it aims to encapsulate that y2k Trance era. An era in Trance music that, unfortunately, seems to be a fleeting memory.

HOWEVER, many artists such as TDJ, and those that she includes via her mixes seem to aim to keep that vision alive.

The Great

This very much feels like a trip down memory lane. The chords and their progression, the soft and calm vocals, combined with those same progressive trance chords just make for an incredible journey in music. That all combined with an incredibly catch and memorable top melody, solidify this as ONE of the best songs from the mix.

As the cover art shows, this song very much fits that vibe. Travel, see the world. See the depths of blue, to the vast horizons of green.

The one gripe with it.

While I did say that the lyrics were calm and soft, I do think that they’re a bit TOO bold; they take up too much of the stage when they’re up.

It could be something with mixing, or maybe it was the intended purpose. I wouldn’t know seeing as how I’m not a music producer. But yeah.

Wrappin it up

Overall, a genuinely beautiful and ethereal song. TDJ and her SPF mixes are DEFINITELY something I’ll be paying much closer attention to. I think with SPF INFINI: GENESIS (The album/mix this song is from), TDJ and her selection DEMAND attention. For anyone who enjoys Trance music, TDJ, and the SPF INFINI mixes are a MUST listen to, and something you SHOULD be keeping tabs on.
