"You got 15 packages today."
"Come on man, on a MONDAY?!"
"Yeah bro, if you want I can make it 30 tomorrow!"
That’s how every conversations with “the UPS driver.” starts.
But after the banter on the packages he starts dropping a bunch of random knowledge.
The biggest one I've learned is:
“Take it easy.”
Unlike most other drivers. he is the only one that takes 20-30 minutes to deliver 3-12 packages.
Why?
This is what he said when I asked.
"Because when you rush you make mistakes, you can deliver a wrong package and some of them are heavy, no job is worth a broken back."
And it does make sense. The world is moving faster and faster. Finding people who are still unbothered by this is a reminder that maybe it’s not that serious.
Another amazing lesson is (from his own words)
"Don't take sh*t from nobody."
He's told me many stories of refusing to deliver and outright TAKING entire deliveries back because people were being disrespectful.
This is of course out of the pale, you hear stories of people losing their jobs for minor things and this guy is outright making enemies at work.
Of course, there’s a lot more he’s dropped in random conversations about his job that sounds more like a dream than a job.
But if there was a song to describe the vibe this guy gives, it would be today’s song.
it’s something that has reached unhealthy obsession levels.
This is by French Freak - I Hate Models.
Not only is it a fantastic name the edit has the perfect “fuck it we ball” vibe.
And while it takes some time to get going, the payoff is absolutely worth it at the end.
