This is part one of my series on collapses. If you just want the song, it’s at the end. Njoy
It’s 3:00PM. I’ve been waiting all day to have this conversation.
I knew things were going wrong, so I spent all day building a plan to fix it.
“Okay, we are ready for you now.”
I get in the room and take a seat.
Before I can say anything, I see them pull out a laptop.
My heart sinks to the earth’s core.
“Can you hear me?” A person starts speaking from the other side. “Okay. Good”.
“Unfortunately, starting today, you are no longer working with us. This decision is final. We will collect your keys and remove your access. She will escort you out.”
Just like that. 2 years and the plan for the rest of the year go out the window.
It was the first time that I had ever been fired.
I saw the signs. But as with everything, I thought I had more time to fix it.
There was no plan B, just a safety net that prevented a full crash and burn. But now the situation was dire.
That was the first pillar to fall. And it marked the beginning of the 3-year cycle.
What is collapse?
If you look up a definition, the first result will be “fall down or in; give way.”
Most collapses seem instantaneous. One moment, the foundations you thought were strong give out, and you’re left with an unrecognizable wreck.
And after seeing how many things have collapsed (and continue to do so) this year, maybe collapses are built over years of neglecting the cracks in the wall.
That said, it is possible to cme out unscathed and even better than before.
And it all starts with being honest about what caused it.
The cracks are visible everywhere; it’s just common to ignore them and fix them “when there’s time for it.”
The next step is to accept that most things will eventually collapse. Entropy is absolute; the few things that resist it are those that are
Well taken care of
Reciprocal (more on that tomorrow)
And the third, is that every collapse opens a new opportunity to build something better.
Yes, it’s understandable to take some time to recover and gain strength. But life keeps moving.
Ask for help, find new avenues, do whatever you have to do to keep moving.
And remember: The best place to be is rock bottom, because the only way from there is up.
Always Forward.
As for today’s song…
This is by False Noise. And inside you will find the definition of an audible collapse.
The start is slow and harrowing, just like the feeling of the ground giving below you.
As the song progresses, it becomes more hopeful, and a sense of energy and optimism.
It unfolds in waves, describing the phases everyone goes through when trying to rebuild. There’s grief, anger, and sadness. And with time, there’s hope, safety, and comfort.
It is a very special experience. Definitely more experimental and stronger on the sounds.
Give it a fair shot and you’ll find yourself with a song that lets you process collapses audibly.
Njoy!

P.S. Even if it feels like all of life gets swept right under in a second, remember that you will naturally become stronger from the fall. You got this.
P.S.S. This is day one of three, more coming tomorrow.
