Alright alright, I get it.
It’s a cheap shot to showcase the most POPULAR Abnormal Australian artist while ACTIVELY talking about this mystical land.
In my defense, there’s a totally valid reason for picking this song.
I’ll explain it somewhere in this email.
That said, I consider this one of Flume’s best songs.
There’s something magical about the whole track.
It sounds like a homage of sorts to home and nature…
Has one of the best buildup payoffs I’ve heard…
And sounds “melancholic” in a sweet way.
It may also causes unexplainable emotions.
Results will vary.

💭 Quick Drivel
For the next 5 days I’ll be exploring the ridiculous trip from last year. Can’t believe it’s almost over!
I didn’t have time to write it when it happened. So why not take advantage of Nostalgia Year to re-live some memories, eh?

What do you call a forest that’s full of bats?
Well, this was a spot near the house. As the name might imply, there were…
A LOT OF BATS.
I honestly didn’t even KNOW that bats could ball out around trees like that.
This place is unreal man hahaha.
Mall
After checking out the bat forest we decided to go explore the mall.
I was searching for a nintendo switch 2 (it was cheaper in australia lol) whiile Clara looked for whatver caught her eye.
Unfortunately we didn’t really find anything and ended up eating some random food court stuff
I got some chinese food (wasn’t the best) and sushi (was pretty good!). The food here is very hit or miss.
However everything is fresh and tastes like real food.
After this we had to rush to the next spot as there was a night activity we couldn’t miss.
Melbourne Museum
DAMN this place is nice.
Its hard to put into words what this place is.
Mostly because its a museum about EVERYTHING to do with natural science.
I mean hell, this museum had a whole “open air” FOREST (no bats though ): )
There were all sorts of birds flying in and out though.
Something amazing about Melbourne is how many bird sounds you hear all over the place.
But here, we could get a “live showcase” of many different birds.
Including one that sounds like a laser beam charging up and shooting.
Top 3 coolest birds in Australia
It was one of those “wait a minute, where have I heard this before?” moments.
The song intro is 1:1 with what you can hear in most of Melbourne.
Another one of those “music meeting reality” moments that I wish for more people to experience.
After this we moved on to the rest of the museum.
Animal Exposition
“HEY, YOU, COVER YOUR EYES.”
“What? What are you sa-” I reply before getting stopped.
“Shut up and cover your eyes. Trust me bro. I gotta show you something. No peeking”
I was guided for a couple of seconds before stopping.
“Okay, uncover your eyes,”
I genuinely lost my mind for a good 2 minutes. I feel bad for the innocent people who had to hear the hyena cackles.
Silly reactions aside, this is anatomically accurate.
But the most impressive thing is that they’ve had this exhibit since 1884, lmfao.
Funnily enough, that wasn’t the only taxidermy to have a silly face; I mean look at these:
Like come on now hahaha, what are we doing here?
Silly faces aside, it’s a really cool exposition.
Even more, all these internet reactions have helped raise awareness of the rapidly shrinking ecosystems these animals live in.
Maybe these taxidermists in the 1800s were on to something…
No time to think about that, as the next expo was just as interesting.
Dinosaur Expo

Didn’t know these were actively roaming the skies, must have been scary
We all know somoene that looks just like this
They also had this Triceratops made out of real bones that were dug up and put together. (which I thought were all dinosaurs but uh… that isn’t the case, I guess?)
Definitely one of the coolest things I’ve seen next to the trains and temples in all of these countries we’ve explored together!
…I’m not really beating the autism allegations am I now.
After this, we were out of time as we had to make it to the next activity.
Acquiring the Switch 2
Yeah so uh, they got Target in Australia.
That was an interesting discovery.
Even more interesting, it was the only store with a Switch 2 in stock.
My bank didn’t seem too happy about it as they LOCKED MY CARD AGAIN when I tried to buy it.
And so began the fun process of calling the bank through roaming fees!
This also surprised all the Australians in the room since none imagined that my bank would pick up at this time.
…I thought that 24/7 bank service was a worldwide thing.
Apparently, some banks (Australian ones at least) don’t work after certain hours.
So 30 minutes after explaining that it was, in fact, me making dumb financial purchases, they unlocked the card, and all ended well.
(Except for the cashier who had to wait for this process. I hope she had some entertainment from hearing the conversation with the bank)
After this, it was finally time.
Demon Slayer Infinite Castle Movie
Now I can’t lie. The stars aligned for this one.
We got some early preview tickets and smuggled in some Nando’s Peri Peri Chicken (This was the crack of Australia)
I can’t lie, the movie was pretty cool!
Animation is all Demon Slayer got going for it. They for sure nailed it.
This also marked the first time I had stepped into a movie theater in 6 years.
It also became one of the >50 movies I’ve seen in my lifetime.
Worth the watch! It’s more fun with friends, though.
After we exited the movie it was already pretty late so we all headed back home.
Final Thoughts
I can’t lie, Australia also has a really good balance between nature and city.
It wasn’t mentioned earlier, but I actually got to see all the monstrosities they call “regular bugs” in the museum.
Holy crap how do people live here hahaha.
I genuinely saw spiders and bugs that will haunt my nightmares forever.
Thankfully it was winter, so all the deadly creatures were frozen in ice.
Got more to say about the weather, but that’s a conversation for tomorrow.
