F.O.O.Lish Invasion.

Part 1.5

Welcome to Sunday Singles!

Every Sunday either Hyperoxia or I will send you a micro-review of a single song.

Since Hyperoxia is still missing, I’m going to take advantage of this and run another famed “Full Artist showcase.”

This means that for the next couple of days, I’ll be exploring the sound of a specific artist.

And what better artist than one who’s been in my top 5 since I started 10 years ago? This is one of the artists responsible for my love of the genre. His journey will be full of different genres, but one thing stays consistent: It’s always really FUCKING good.

Artist Lore

F.O.O.L (Fuck Our Ordinary Lives) has been consistently playing in my ears for the past 10 years.

The project has been active for 15 years. First, it was a duo, and then it was carried solo by Melodic Mastermind™️ Rasmus Hermansen.

He defines everything I love about electronic music: melody, sound design, and the speed and energy that match my thought speed.

This is one of the few artists whose discography consistently delivers. Every release is full of energy, addictive melodies, and an instantly recognizable sound.

And even though he’s abandoned the Electro sound for synthwave, the consistency in his music keeps me coming back.

The one gripe with it.

Alright. Before I start going off on how good it is, it’s only fair to have a disclaimer…

This is a “noisy” song by most people’s standards. I know it because that’s the reaction I’ve gotten out of it.

It’s gritty, dirty, and sounds like a speaker on life support.

It’s not a song for everyone. And that’s what killed electro. The sound was too intense for many.

This is not much of a gripe for me, but it may be a gripe for you.

If you’ve enjoyed our house releases, you certainly won’t enjoy this one. But if you do end up liking it, we are now soul-bound to be friends.

The Great

As the name implies, this song invades your mind after the drop.

Classic start to all old songs. Back then, it wasn’t so competitive, so you had the opportunity to start off with a simple kick-snare to “prepare” people.

But as the intro transforms into a glitchy effect and throws you into the drop, the REAL song begins.

You’ll be instantly thrown into a world of 3 different types of bass.

The magic of the song is in the mid-drop melody, which gives it the same feel as winning at the casino.

And as with every song, it comes with a fantastic and euphoric mid-section to give your ears a small break before throwing you back in the ringer.

If it’s your first time hearing an electro-trash song like this, you’ll probably be distraught or a bit buzzy once it ends.

It’s normal. It’s like drinking raw milk. It doesn’t have the fancy sounds or the clean mixing. It’s just raw electronic sounds that happen to have a good melody in between them.

Wrappin it up

Electro is a very tough genre to “Sell.” Its filthy sound keeps it in the “nah this is just noise” category from the mainstream. I chose this song as the first one because it has the simple F.O.O.L formula that’s going to be in every song: Energy, good sound, and phenomenal melodies.

Don’t worry if this song is not up your alley. Tomorrow you’ll get one that follows the same amazing formula without raw machine sounds.

Similar to it

We have a remix by Figure! This one honestly brings out the best part of the song (the melody in the middle of the drop) and puts it in the center. This song is like that one rollercoaster that starts out underwhelming but then throws you into the speed with little to no warning.

It's a good alternative if you love the melody but are too distraught by the heavy bass.
