🍱 Delicacy of the Day
Grey Killer - Arrows of Fate
Rowdy Russian Grey Killer makes some of the most groovy tracks on the game.
When it isn’t melodic masterpieces its groovy tracks that keep you moving.
This is one of the latter.
The start might be a bit boring. I think that’s on purpose because nothing prepares you for the real track that starts if you give it a moment.
Once it gets going, it’s pure groove and energy. Can become addicting to be honest.
It’s a fun song. Sounds better at night.
Njoy.

💭 Quick Drivel
For the next 35 days I’ll be exploring the ridiculous trip from last year
I didn’t have time to write it when it happened. So why not take advantage of Nostalgia Year to re-live some memories, eh?
If you don’t mind or care (no blame there), enjoy the hand-picked songs that made up this trip a lot more special. They’re even better than the amazing stuff we regularly send.
It’s 9am.
Today is the day I finally start going through the groceries.
So I find a bowl…
Fill it with cereal…
And pull the mystery liquid that looks like milk…
Gently pour it into the bowl…
And sit down to enjoy this “ramen”
I get my first bite and wince.
Something doesn’t taste right.
I take another bite.
It ain’t the cereal. That tastes fine. Could it be?…
I fill up my spoon with the mystery liquid and take a sip.
Yup.
THIS AIN’T MILK.
It seems that in my infinite wisdom I bought YOGURT instead of milk.
Which to be fair it came in a milk carton and it had a picture of a milk swirl.
Unfortunately, I bought a half-gallon of it and a big bag of cereal.
So the only way was THROUGH.
After killing the bowl (and my appetite) it was time to get the day started.
Menbaka Fire Ramen
Yeah. Not the best decision to eat AGAIN right after just having breakfast.
They gave me a random kimono thing, put a HEAVY fire-proof blanket…
And imploded a ramen in my face.

The taste was…

Alright tbh. 7/10
Which kinda sucks since the whole experience cost north of $90.
However, in the end they gave me a little booklet that the owner wrote with “hidden gems tourists don’t know about”.
This was a REALLY cool souvenir and made the whole experience worth it.
I found the next stop in it.
Mikane Shrine
This is known as “the temple of money.”

It’s surprisingly small and relatively hidden away in between some buildings.
So its definitely something you find by accident or by actually knowing.
It has a golden torii gate, and it was unsurprisingly packed with residents. (Not a single tourist)
Very cool experience!
Kyoto Manga Museum
This was more of a “guilty” pleasure.
I got heavy into manga earlier in the year and became intrigued by the art form.
The museum itself is this massive building that doubles as a library.
I read a volume of PEAKurabachi and explored a showcase they had on WW2 mangas.
It’s one of those museums that add a lot of depth to surface-level interests.
Very cool to learn how the world of manga works.
Nanzen-ji
Another one of these massive temples with a dozen buildings.
It had a watchtower thing where you could see the sights:

One of those rock gardens

And one of those houses with a well kept garden

On my way out I made a new friend called Sam (not the real name).
I asked what they were doing after this, they said “idk” and I proposed coming with me to a temple that I heard was amazing.
Surprisingly, they said yes.
…Which might have been a mistake, as it didn’t take long for me to get us both lost.
Entering Gion
It was in getting lost that we ended in this magical spot.
And… WOW

Neither of us knew where the hell we were.
But it as if we teleported 100 years into the past.
We wandered around while I secretly fought with Google craps Maps trying to get us somewhere.
But to play it cool I found a phrase that comforted both of us:
“It Gets Better”
(I genuienly had no idea what to expect)
And through whatever manifestation of magic…
It did get better.
A LOT better.

I wanted to come here but had no idea what it was called.

Yeah, this place was PACKED with tourists

Kyiozumi Sudera
I had no idea what this temple was or what the hell was going on.
For whatever reason, it was still open (despite it being 6pm at this point), and they sold us a night ticket.
Thanks to this temple, my “it gets better” promise paid off.

It didn’t get better after this lol.
An absolutely magical moment.
I’m still not sure what I would have said if that wasn’t the case but it goes to show that delusional promises CAN work.
It was also insane to look to my left and see this massive beacon of light.

And that’s when I realized…
I HAD SEEN THIS TEMPLE FROM KYOTO TOWER LAST NIGHT.
Finding this place was driving me crazy, and I ended up here by pure CHANCE.
One of those moments that prove fate is a real thing.
This whole day was one huge fate-maxxing day.
Shortly after taking some pictures, we met Alex*. Another character that joined us in the adventure.
We met at the final moment as the security guards were starting to kick everyone out (it was 9pm at this point)
We decided to find somewhere to eat as everyone was getting hungry.
Dinner
“The best dishes are those where you’re staring into a barrel of food poisoning.” - Alex, 2025
We ended up at this random hole-in-the-wall. We had to rush as Sam’s train was leaving in an hour and the nearest station was 10 minutes away.
I don’t actually have any pictures (phone was at 20% and I had to make it home)
But he was right, I ate the most suspicious piece of chicken katsu that tasted like absolute heaven.
After that it was time to exchange info, and go our separate ways.
Almost becoming homeless again.
Yeah so it seems I stayed out a little bit TOO late.
Just as fate would have it, I got the very last train that led to my nearest station.
By the time I got there, all the buses were over, which meant finding an Uber or walking 40 minutes home.
It was also another one of those “main phone died, music phone is at 10%” situations.
Thankfully, after waiting 15 minutes (and praying the phone didn’t die), I got an Uber home.
This place is beautiful and not too “late night” friendly.
Regardless, it was time to sleep and get ready for the next day.
Always meeting fate Forward
