🍱 Delicacy of the Day

The original '“A taste of hope” is in my top 10 best singles.

This remix adds a piano I didn’t even know the original song needed.

So you end up having this masterpiece that is both euphoric and energetic.

Nothing surprising from yet another Abnormal Australian.

Odd Mob is amazing at club-ready tracks that have you dancing with unique sound design and melodies.

I highly recommend you check him out if you haven’t.

Njoy.

💭 Quick Drivel

For the next 14 days I’ll be exploring the ridiculous trip from last year

I didn’t have time to write it when it happened. So why not take advantage of Nostalgia Year to re-live some memories, eh?

If you don’t mind or care (no blame there), enjoy the hand-picked songs that made up this trip a lot more special. They’re even better than the amazing stuff we regularly send.

It’s 4am.

I don’t know how I’m up.

Part inspiration and part commitment.

After all I had a mission to fulfill.

I got to Promethet Cape and sat on a bench.

There’s a random stray cat next to me, keeping me company on this adventure.

And so the wait begins.

It’s raining, and I’m still sick-ish.

But I am determined to make this happen.

And so I wait…

And I wait…

I start seeing the sky get brighter.

…but where’s the sun?

ohhhh…….

This is when I realize…

I’m on the wrong side of the coast.

Now don’t get me wrong, Promthep Cape is beautiful

But my dumbass didn’t think to Google “what side is the sunrise,” and so I woke up early to hang out with a cat.

There was this cool elephant shrine thing so that was a nice touch.

Then I took the Uber of shame back to the hotel to pass out for another couple of hours.

  1. Finding something to do (again)

After waking up I was back to looking for things to do so I went to the hotel front desk to ask (locals always know best).

“Hey! What you recommend a first-time traveler to check out?”

“Hello! Well, I'm not sure, have you checked out Patong street (it’s the main party street)?”

“Well… I don't drink or party. What is there to do for people who don’t do anything?”

Utter silence.

She gives me that confused look everyone does when I ask this question.

“Well… there's the beach!” she finally says after a minute of thinking.

“Okay fair enough…”

“What about temples or lookouts?”

“Ah yes! There's the Wat Surkinat nearby. The big Buddha is closed right now but there's another viewpoint in Khao Rang. There's also a really good restaurant near there.”

And so I had my plans for the day!

  1. Wat Suwannakiri Khet

Now let me tell you, Thailand temples are BEAUTIFUL.

They have a lot of impressive features, I mean look at this.

They had a flea market going on that day (which blocked a good amount of the other parts of the temple). but the whole thing was beautiful.

  1. Finally going to the mf beach.

Look, I’m not a beach person. I can’t care less about the beach.

But since everyone and their mothers recommended it, I had to go check it out

It’s alright, idk what the hype is lol.

  1. Phuket Old Town

The thing about Thailand is that there really isn’t a robust transit system.

Just like Miami, getting anywhere is 10 minutes driving yourself and 1 hour on public transportation.

The buses were also every 40 minutes, and I had no time to spare.

The issue was that Ubers were adding up, and the budget was already overspent.

Now here’s the curious thing.

If you order a car, it costs $15-25.

If you order a motorcycle, it costs $5-10.

That said, my ass ain’t built for motorcycles. Heard way too many horror stories of people falling and losing their legs

So I kept tanking the car costs.

…except in classic Hz fashion, I ordered an Uber to the middle of nowhere (but still a 30-minute walk from the old town).

My only reasonable option was to get another $20 car uber

…or a $5 bike.

Yeah to this day it was the scariest vehicles I’ve been in, espeically since the drivers like larping as action movie stars and drift between cars.

Regardless, I made it alive.

It's a really neat place with traditional Portuguese architecture.

Wasn’t looking for much to do so I just explored the area to soak in the sights.

Except it didn’t take long to get lost and end in…

  1. Lobster Fest

Yeah so I didn’t know lobsters were such a big deal here.

A demo of a lobster or something.

It was mostly foods related to lobster (including deep fried lobster, which, lmao)

Of course, it had the respective prices ($40), so I only got some lobster bites (pretty good!) and headed to the next destination.

  1. Khao Rhang lookout

I can’t believe I get to say this in Thailand where there are no towers but…

SAY IT WITH ME!

ANOTHER DAY…

ANOTHER LOOKOUT!

There were also wild monkeys running around.

Felt

Here are some of the “sunset” pics.

Another cloudy sunset…

I was actually playing today’s song while this was happening. It added to the beauty of seeing the city illuminate.

Unfortunately, I had to leave before it got dark, as my phone was close to dying and I still had to get dinner.

So I ordered another bike. It’s more terrifying going downhill, especially when the driver is texting and driving (which was quite impressive).

  1. “Racist” restaurant

The hotel front desk recommended this. They said it had Michelin-star dishes.

And that they did. But they had a lot of them and I had no idea what anything was.

So I asked the waiter what specialty she recommended.

To which she pointed at a beef soup in the menu and went …

“White People Okay!”

I had to do a double-take at what she said.

“Huh?"

“This food is white people okay! You can eat this no problem”

…you’ll never guess what I ended up ordering.

Pork soup.

It was PHENOMENAL.

Maybe it wasn’t

  1. Hellscape Uber

The best way to find out what the locals think of American stereotpyes is to get on enough ubers.

Some do things like fill their cars with LEDs and blast pop music…

Some have Coca-Colas ready…

Some start recommending you hamburger places…

So what this driver with a beat-up 2002 Honda Civic with the check engine light on do?

This one went above and beyond.

Okay, so you know the TikTok song compilations right?

You don’t?

I didn’t either!

Until the Uber played this the WHOLE 40-MINUTE RIDE BACK.

Both my main and music phone died, and this guy was BLASTING the music.

This felt like purgatory. I genuinely cannot put into words how horrendous this was.

Thankfully, the mix was almost over when the ride started. I was literally counting down the minutes on the car screen for this cursed mix to end.

It was the longest 5 minutes of my life.

But hey, maybe he just had this out of confusion or as part of a “I gotta appeal to the American for big tip!”.

…except that when the current SUMMER TIKTOK MASHUP REMIX 2025 ended…

Yeah… I’m starting to think this guy REALLY enjoys this.

Which is surprising since some of these tracks sound AI-generated as well.

This experience made me grateful that newsletters like these exist where you can find good songs.

Regardless, I made it to the hotel with less IQ (which was already low) than when I got in that Uber.

I instantly knocked out upon arrival.

Which was necessary, as tomorrow was attempt #2 for the only reason I came to this place.

More tomorrow.

Always Forward
