Q.U.I.T
It's Time.
Today, a year ago, I was sitting inside a cold room in a winery.
I’m not alone. All around, about a hundred other people were talking to each other.
Suddenly, the lights dim, and all attention turns to the small figure approaching the center stage.
The speaker, Marcella Allison, tapped the microphone three times and started…
“Three years ago I was making a 5 hour trip to the psych ward to pick up my son. He was getting kicked out for the second time.
His father and I had been trying everything to make sure he was fine, but after failing to get job and getting kicked out of the ward before this was it.
So we got him an apartment, stocked it up with enough food for a month, dropped him off there and told him “from today on, you’re on your own.”
It was a scary time. Every day, I was ready for a police officer to knock on my door, show me a picture of my son, and ask if I knew him.
Let me ask you a question: how do you differentiate between grit and quit?
Most of us hold on to senseless grit in the name of “being effective,” but the truth is that in the Age of AI, you have to be adaptable.
And I’m here to tell you that: It’s. Okay. To QUIT.
Now you may be wondering… what happened to my son? Did he get worse? Did he start doing more drugs? Did he turn to robbing people?
No. Quitting on him was the wake-up call he needed to fix his life.
Today, he is happily married to a beautiful wife, a highly paid store manager, and will welcome his first child in the next months.
So, if your heart tells you to quit, listen, and let go.
Sometimes it’s the best thing you can do for yourself and others.”
She then walked off stage to a roar of applause.
Now, that’s the paraphrased and short version. I can’t give the full story without getting sued (the ticket was like $1.5k, LOL).
But to this day, those words are etched into my soul.
You and I get hung up on things that don't work: relationships, businesses, friendships, jobs, memories, things, and 7+ year-old phones.
Worse, we keep things that don't matter, people that don't deserve our time and situations that NO LONGER deserve our attention.
In many cases, quitting feels like rejecting the self and letting a piece of identity die. No matter how harmful it is.
But sometimes, that's just what's needed to make the leap and change.
And just as Allison said it one year ago:
“There is a time for grit and a time to quit. And sometimes, it’s best to Q.U.I.T"
Quickly
Understand
It's
Time”
But there's ONE exception to that…
And that’s GOOD FUKN MUSIC BAYBEE.
There are some songs you can NEVER quit hearing, no matter how much you listen to them.
This is one of them.
Yeah yeah, it’s Fridee and I’m supposed to do this whole “hErEs ThE bEsT tRaCkS oF tOdAy” but let’s shake things up a bit.
Today’s song was my “anxiety anchor” during the event.
My social anxiety is so bad that I refused to speak to anyone during the 3 day event. It was so bad I had to go take deep breaths in the bathroom after each talk because everyone was getting too much.
But thanks to this song, I kept it together, and now I can remember most of those talks and realize that it was real. I attended a real-life event and met two of the biggest mentors and influences for these emails.
It's a “life song” in it’s purest definition.
And what better artist to represent than the legendary Netherland Neanderthal IMANU.
Fantastic sound design, addictive melody, clean all around. It’s just primo quality. $120 steakhouse meal-type quality.
This could be released every Fridee and I’d eat it upin full.
Artists this consistently good are hard to come by, but IMANU is a pioneer of the New Gen (Name in progress™️) and his work excites me about the genre's future.
So Q.U.I.T reading this email and play this (and the PARADISE EP) on repeat.
Njoy.
Genre: House.
Always Quitting Forward
