Here’s a quick question for you.

Can you guess who (in my biased opinion) the biggest one hit wonder of electronic music is?

Let me give you a hint.

He has almost 10 Billion listens on youtube and spotify.

I’ll let you think about it for a second.

That’s not an electronic music artist. I promise you

No, it’s not Marshmello.

Got an answer?

Okay. It’s…

Alan Walker.

Yes. THE Alan walker with 26 million monthly listeners, 10 billion plays on a mid song, and enough fans to take over a country.

In all sense of the words, he is what people would call successful.

But brother… His music???

Faded is 10 years old (much like his average fan) and that is questionably good.

I’m making this opinion from unfortunately listening to his music. It’s not just "hurr durr he’s bad because everyone say he’s bad.”

IT’S JUST MF B O R I N G.

Every single album of his sounds the same as it did in 2015.

And I don’t know about you…

But I can’t listen to 5 minute craft music on the regular.

Especially considering how many amazing artists there are out there today.

So why is he so popular despite not producing any remarkable or good?

I don’t know.

Maybe he’s a good DJ. But according to many sources, he just plain sucks at that too.

Maybe he is just botting. Maybe he just has the entire age group of under 15 hypnotized with Faded. Maybe I’m just wrong.

Who can tell?

That’s the unique thing about Electronic music.

You can be a one hit wonder and still succeed. Sure, people will criticize your every move and be toxic.

But guess what? That doesn’t have to stop anyone.

If Alan Walker can release 5 minute craft background music slop for 10 years (and counting)…

You can also build your dream life. No matter what that looks like.

Because when you’re running a race you want to be in…

You WILL be successful in a long enough time frame.

If you want a more “close to home” example, look at The Dumpster.

Ion care if tomorrow you and every other Dumpster Diver leaves.

Not because I don’t like you (I’m incredibly grateful for the time you take out of your day to read these rambles)…

But because I LOVE doing this and WANT people who are in it for the long haul.

Not everyone is gonna dig these rambles or like my trash taste in music.

And that’s okay!

In fact, being a one hit wonder does more good than harm.

Because those who stay after the “wonder” wears off will be there for you no matter what.

So let’s all be the Alan Walkers of our industries.

Okay, I just played another one of his songs. Holy crap this is bad. Maybe that’s the wrong example.

So instead, be like Just a Gent.

He started a year before Alan Walker and made some of the best electronic music of it’s time.

Then some “failed” albums later he faded into obscurity.

And guess what?

He’s STILL in the game releasing heater after heater.

Yes, it’s a completely different sound from his “One Hit Wonder” era. (We can’t all have the luxury of being stuck in 2015)

And I’m all for it.

A good example is today’s song.

It came out this year on of my favorite EPs of the year.

Here’s some other reason why you should listen to it:

  • It has a cool message at the start of the song.

  • To hear what consistent progress sounds like.

  • Sound design is on POINT.

  • It has beautiful melodies that can get you in a state of trance.

  • I mean look at that cover art.

  • To Just be a Gent (or Lady) and experience more music.

Njoy.

Genre: Start to finish listen

Always Forward.

P.S. If that’s not enough inspiration. Here’s a PHENOMENAL video from existential crisis turtle (Exurb1a) who is a much better writer and explainer in life concepts. Highly recommended.
