Finding purpose.
A simple excercise.
If you're feeling lost, don’t know what you want to do with your life, or simply want some clarity, 3 hours is all you need.
The exercise is simple:
Sit in a room with no distractions for 3 hours. Not even music.
Allow yourself to be bored.
Through boredom, let your thoughts find the solution to whatever problem you have
It sounds complicated. 3 HOURS without any form of entertainment?
What type of person can do that anymore?
Well. I had that exact problem, so here’s my variation of it:
Find a park that was 90 minutes away from my house (literally in another city).
Drive there without a phone or anything that could remove boredom. (Yes. I sat on my car for 3 hours with nothing but the sound of the road)
Had to keep driving until I found “The Mission” (Fancy word for purpose, lol.)
What type of cretin does this sort of thing?
A cretin with a fried attention span that wants to find a mission.
And hey, it worked! I now have a North Star to aim for.
A mentor recommended to do it at my desk, but that wasn’t going to happen. So, obviously, the only place I can be alone for three hours is… in a car, lol.
Now, it doesn’t have to be in a car for you.
But if you don’t have a quiet home to have 3 quiet hours in, a 90-minute train ride (going back and forth) can do the same trick.
The whole point is to allow your brain to be bored to find the answers to your toughest problems,
And hey, what do you have to lose? Being bored allowed me to be present for the first time in years. It’s a wonderful feeling
Unfortunately, I don’t have an inspirational song to follow this up with. I honestly haven’t heard music all day so…
Here’s an ol reliable that came up on the “Writing Email Music” rotation.
It’s full of that emotion that can only be described as “It’s go time”
The whole composition is a masterwork. I love the guiding voice that walks you through the sound. There’s a feeling of waking through a desert, with nothing but yourself to get out of there.
This is 100% a cinematic song, but one that can help you feel like a badass when you want to outsource confidence.
It’s a song I’ll use as I work to fulfill my newfound mission, and it can also help you.
So as always, good luck and…
Njoy.
Genre: Cinematic Electronic.
Always Forward
Hz.
P.S. In hindsight I should have written the email first THEN go mission seeking, lol.
