Points Beyond
What do you see?
You and I are nothing.
A couple days ago I remembered a trip I took to San Miguel Allende, in Mexico.
I was standing on the highest peak that overlooked the village and valley behind it.
It was there, staring at the sunset where I realized the smallness of existence.
Realizing how many generations lived and died building such a wonderful place. Seeing their dreams, their passions, their lifelong work forever standing and maintained by generations.
Picturing the evolution from a barren desert to a thriving town. Imaginging the houses and churches being built, sprawling and expading as time goes. Feeling the vastness of the valley as I see further settlements.
Seeing the sun set as another day goes by. Watching as the lights slowly trickle in, decorating the town in all sorts of colors (mostly yellow, thougH)
The sense of awe still lives rent free in my head. It was the day I found the insignificance in my existence.
Staring into horizons is a something so simple to experience yet dismissed for “Fancy alternatives” like “going to the beach”.
In fact, you don’t need a lavish trip. It can be as simple as getting to the top floor of the tallest waste of space parking garages, and stare at the concrete jungle city below.
Feel the area around you. What do you see? What do you realize? Why are you living where you do? Where have your dreams gone? Are you happy with how the past 5 years have been?
Only you can answer that. And seeing things from a small perspective is the best way to do trigger insight.
If you live by nature, it’s worth doing a trip to the highest peak.
You are alive. You are worth more than a 9-5 to doom scroll life cycle. We live in the era of the highest opportunity.
There is a future.
And you are part of it.
Want to take me up on an challenge?
Plan it for the weekend. This way you’ll be 50% more likely to do it.
Find a high spot. Everywhere has it, even flat ass places like Florida. DO NOT Break into a building even if you have to.
Ride there by sunset. Something about seeing the landscape evolve to night is magical. Seeing new rituals, new people, and of course, the creatures come out.
Last but not least: play today’s song as you the evolving land in front of you,
Which takes me to what you came here for.
Whether you take me up on the offer, here’s today’s song.
I can’t describe the sound of this one. Yet the lyrics, combined with the simple melody, fits whatever landscape you are looking at.
This is the song I’ll use to encode trip memories. Something about it encapsulates that feeling of awe when discovering a new place.
There are few songs that can trigger this sense of contemplation. Best played over car speakers or anywhere you regularly disassociate relax in.
