you need this :)

Will you accept it?

Fun fact: You've likely received 1 or 2 dubstep songs all year.

That changes today.

After scouring the internet I have wrangled found another artist brave enough to go through a DumpsterView.

Belarusian Bastard (name in progress) RADMYST.

Of course, the DumpsterView is after the song.

This is from his most recent album "you need this :)" which came out last month.

I believe the genre is called "color bass" which... man, the dubstep scene is grasping for names now huh.

In any case the song is really good. It has a catchy melody and the rhythm is extremely enjoyable. Learning how the actual song was produced made it more special.

Give it a shot! I know we don’t usually send songs like this but you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how something that spawned from riddim can be good, lol.

Njoy. (Dumpsterview below)

You can also listen to the full album here!

Let’s begin…

Hz: "Hey Hey! I'm here with RADMYST and since I still don't know how to make interview questions, let's start with a simple one (Editors note - the questions don’t get better.):

Who are you and how did you start?"

RADMYST: I am RADMYST, an 18 year old producer from Belarus and making music has been a major part of my life for almost 5 years now.

My friend from elementary school showed me fl studio and he showed me that you could make beats and really fun things in the daw.

Since I had no computer at the time, I started making beats in fl studio mobile. I started from making goofy and weird trap beats to more bass oriented stuff like dubstep.

Oh, and now I make music in Ableton Live :)

Hz: "FL studio mobile is CRAZY. That's actually pretty cool though, unstoppable. So who is your biggest inspiration?"

R: Yeah, despite the serious limits I had on my ability to make music, I never stopped trying my best to improve and make the best things I could.

I might have a bit too many inspirations at this point but as for my latest release, a majority of the songs i made for it were inspired by a producer who goes by the name Canoto.

I discovered him back in early 2023 and his sound design, songwriting and general vibe of the songs have greatly influenced my sound and style.

I should also mention Automhate, BAW, Octane, Papa Khan and Sora who also shaped the way my music is like right now. All of them are incredibly talented people.

My girlfriend is also the biggest driving force of my music! She inspires me to keep going and keep creating more music, which is why I dedicated my album to her.

Hz: "Oh? That's quite interesting, was there a song built specifically dedicated to her?"

R: I think "before i go" is the song that reflects the time I spent with her and the way she makes me feel the most.

She lives very far away from me and finally seeing her this year has been magical. having to leave was the hardest part but it also taught me to appreciate those days with her even more and I can't wait to see her again.

The final piano section in "before i go" was written with that moment in mind.

Hz: "Okay that really does give it more meaning, it certainly stood out in the album since it had a solid mix of riddim with some modern color bass.

So let me ask more about the music itself, what's your philosophy in production?"

When it comes to making music itself, I tend to not overcomplicate things.

I know a lot of artists who create these insane complicated synths and patches, arrange the songs in a way that you just can't wrap your head around.

When it works for them, it's really awesome.

As for me, I usually create music with not too much processing, I also rely on resampling and presets and the reason for that could be the way i used to make music back in fl mobile.

It was incredibly hard and inefficient to create solid sound design due to a lack of 3rd party vsts and synths so I resorted to using a fair amount of samples.

Bottom line is, I'm incredibly simplistic when it comes to creating specific sounds and tend to use shortcuts, and I invest most of my energy into songwriting, arrangement and mixing

Hz: "Okay awesome, so you mentioned sampling, what's your process for creating and curating them? There was something you said about using a train sound"

R: Most of the time I just find a sound or a loop that I really like and try my best to make the most out of it...

Stretch it, squash it, pitch it up and down, reverse it, put it through a granulator, slap a bunch of weird FX, all that fun stuff.

The main bass that you hear in VIR is actually a loop made by Canoto that I put through a patch in a vst called SpecOps by Unfiltered audio.

It created this weird plucky and tonal sound that was so different from the original sample that I couldn't help but make a drop with it.

As with the train sound, when it comes to using real life sounds for ambience, I make them fit the story and the narrative.

I was leaving my girlfriend's city on a train and that's why I used a train sound to portray the thoughts I had in my head at the time.

"Hearing about how music is produced is mad fun, had no idea samples were that versatile So does every song have an individual story? If so, what are they?"

Surprisingly, yeah. All of the songs have lore behind the scenes and I can share a couple of them :)

The intro for the album "my promise" was originally a song I made for a side project I was a part of. It's an Angry Birds fan game that's made from scratch and I made a piece that would fit a space theme but then after looking into it, I made revisions and it became my own thing.

"VIR" was actually supposed to be a collab with Stephie, an artist that I collabed with on my outro song. At the time she distanced herself from riddim and we decided to work together on another project, while I passed the song to Sylance who did an amazing job with it.

There was also a techno drop that didn't get into the final render, might release it at some point in the future haha ;)

"Kachannie" also had a collaborator named rkxd. We tried making something with it together but sadly it didn't work out so I had to finish it on my own. Nothing serious by the way, we didn't have beef or anything lol.

"before i go" features a sample from my childhood game called Chroma Crash, it's an old goofy game about a metal frog and a track "Free" was sampled in the intro section of my song.

"Our memories" dates way back to 2021 when I made my first EP under a different alias that goes by the name ElliahN. You can still find it on streaming platforms and the song is pretty much a VIP of an older song called "Memories".

Hz: "Nah but that's honestly very cool, there's a lot of cool stuff in there

Alright so, what's next for you?”

R: And also, what's the story behind the name RADMYST?

These are really good questions. I feel like there's definitely gonna be more experimental things going forward.

I've been currently inspired by a lot of hyperpop and alt rock, been listening to a lot of EDEN, brakence, Disphing, Ferlite and wishlane's music lately so you can expect me even make music with my own vocals which is something that I've been looking forward to in a while!

I'm still going to make dubstep for the love of it and find different ways to infuse my current sound with the sound I want to create moving forward.

As for the name, I wish I could ramble about how the name RADMYST has some crazy lore and how I've put tons of meaning behind it but it's really simple. I was just playing with words and then "red mist", "radical" and "mysterious" came to my mind, so you can connect the dots here :)

Hz: "Alright so as final question, where can people find you?"

R: People can find me on Instagram, on Twitter and Bluesky. I've been using the former much less though. I also hang out a lot in different producers' servers over on Discord and anyone can feel free to talk about music with me or just about anything, really :)"
