Is this guy better than Rufus Du Sol?
Who could this mysterious figure be?
Welcome to Sunday Singles!
Every Sunday either Hyperoxia or I will send you a micro-review of a single song.
Bringing in another underground artist who's been producing nothing but heaters.
Is it better than the Legendary Rufus Du Sol? That's for you to decide. I think in terms of consistency, yes, in terms of sound? Let's find out…
Song Info
Title: Rob Tirea - Tracksuit
Release Date: 12/1/23
Genre: Special House
Runtime: 3:48
Artist Lore
Rob Tirea is an American’t from Orange County. I don't know why not just say LA but oh well, Can'tifornians are peculiar individuals.
He's been producing for nearly a decade now but his newer songs are very reminiscent of Rufus du Sol in a fantastic way.
The Great
The composition is very similar to Rome In Silver (who has apparently quit, lol). It's full of emotive melodies with a delicious side of PEAK sound design.
The mixture between synthesized vocal chops with fast kicks and snares make this both an energetic and exciting chune.
The bass on the back is smooth and ads some nice support, it's only listenable with a good pair of audio equipment so this is a song for your finest headphones.
Overall I'm digging the “Rufus du sol” with a more sound design. It's a good concept if you have the voice for it which Rob definitely has.
It's a very enjoyable track. I've been using it on drives and it fits extremely well.
The one gripe with it.
This is where the vocal rant usually goes, but…
I think this song has helped me understand what I dislike about vocals in electronic music: The Forced Singing.
Don't get me wrong: the beat, melody and sound make this a fantastic song. The vocals give it a bit more personality.
My gripe is now with the rest of the industry: please get singers who actually enjoy singing for electronic music. You're getting rockstar wannabes yo sing in the farthest thing from electronic and it sounds.
Wrappin it up
This is a fantastic start to 2025. Rob Tirea has joined my “must watch” after going through a discography of nothing but heaters. Highly recommend to go through his discography.
Similar to it
I don't blame you if you can't get enough. This is another one from the same EP. He has a fantastic ear for melodies and composition. This one is groovier and more for for regular outside use, lol.
