The music listening matrix.
How to deal with analysis paralysis
A common problem you may face with music is “what the heck do I listen to?”
There’s so much to choose from with old and new songs fighting for attention.
So how do you pick?
Dumpsterlabs Interactive™️ was hard at work today, developing this handy matrix to help you manage your overwhelm.

Made from the Finest of minds.
If this looks confusing, here’s the explanation:
There are usually 2 questions when choosing to hear music:
Have I heard this before?
Can I play it out loud? (Fancy words for “do I have my headphones?”)
The second one is a bit more in-depth. We tend not to listen to music because we fear what people around us will think. So I’ve added some reframes you can use.*
Let’s explain the quadrants:
Quadrant #1 is if you’ve heard the song before and can’t play it out loud.
The solution is simple: Play it again and enjoy!
Even if it’s been 5 minutes since you heard it, you are a different person now.
That replay can give you new emotions, new reactions, new memories, etc.
Quadrant #2 (Guilty Pleasure) is if you’ve heard the song before and can play it out loud.
This is where you share it with the world and deal with the consequences after. It’s a good option if you want to test the level of open-mindedness of the place you’re in.***
Quadrant #3 (Russian Roulette) is if you Haven't heard the song before and can’t play it out loud.
This is my personal favorite but that’s just the inner gambler in me.
Why Russian roulette? Because it’s self-inflicted. And there are 2 outcomes. You like the song and miss the bullet, or you hate the song and just shoot yourself.
Quadrant #4 (Bold introduction) is the riskiest one. This is if you haven’t heard the song and can play it out loud.
You’ve never heard it and the chances of people around you knowing it are slim.
It’s Russian roulette, but instead of a revolver, it’s a minigun that sprays everyone without the heads up.
If you pull through, it could make for an interesting experience for everyone involved.
So where does today's song fall on this matrix?…
Well…
That’s for you to find.
To me, this is a song in quadrant #4.
I’ve never heard this song before. I’m playing it out loud AFTER I send this email.
So, yes, I don't even know what to expect. I found this off “Rabbit Holing”, so the ONLY guarantee is that it will be electronic music.
Risky? Yes. But you didn’t sign up for boring slop.
If you’re unsure if this song will be worth it, please consult the matrix.
