🍱 Delicacy of the Day
SICKBASS & INDOX - Mad About
Alright, this week I’m not even going to try to have a theme for it.
This is straight up something I found out in the wild a couple hours ago.
It was in this “Bass house album” that was kinda sleeper.
The song came on shortly after saying “ayo, bass house FELL OFF”
But I quickly got hit with the nastiest bass-and-drum combo.
Very unsurpsing from someone called SICKBASS (German Gremlin btw. Can’t make this up).
It reminded me of another song that I can’t put my finger on and don’t have the time to find.
This does play like a storm in Florida, hits you with everything it has for 2 straight minutes before going away like nothing happened.
A bit of an energetic start to the week won’t hurt anyone ey?
Njoy.

💭 Quick Drivel
There’s a curious thing that happens to genres like clockwork.
A handful of people come up with this innovative sound and rhythm.
It completely blows up and takes the “overall genre” by storm.
6-10 months later everything sounds the exact same with slightly different BPMs or “slighly different” variations.
The best example I have of this is Bass house and Phonk (you remember that one?)
At first, it was incredible. Artists like Jauz, Ephwurd, and Joyryde evolved house into something bass-heavy and energetic.
Kinda like shaking it alive.
That was all the way back in…
2016…
Ho-lee crap, the nostalgia hits all equally, huh?
Well now 10 years later it hasn’t evolved or innovated.
Sure, there are some artists like ALRT and -to some extent- Knock2 who have given this wandering corpse of a genre some fresh, albeit temporary, life.
But it seems most genres from 2016 that didn’t die (looking at you riddim) are somehow still alive because people can't tell them apart.
On the inverse, you have genres like phonk who TOOK OFF and dominated the scene for a good 2 years before dying out in a ball of flames.
Mostly because it got filled overnight with copy pastes of original songs. I guess the creativity for the genre died pretty quick after that lmao.
That wasn’t the only thing that killed it though…
As cringe as some of it was (don’t get me started on the “aura” edits), some incredible songs hid in the slop. Most I still play to this day.
But unfortunately for the phonk genre, it never made it to the “live event” stage.
It seems that the genres that survive are the ones that make it to the main stage or festivals.
Fail that important step and your favorite genre might be forced into obscurity.
Such is the case for “Headphone Music” genres.
Don’t believe me? Look at what happened to future bass, complextro, and witch house.
Maybe its a bigger thing in Europe. If someone could confirm its the case please let me know.
But until then, my point still stands: The genres that will last the test of time are those that you can play in front of a festival audience. No matter how horrible, repetitive, or boring it gets.
If you want a clear example, just look at the riddim/”Bass music” industry.
That’s all for today.
