Single Sunday #18

Welcome to Sunday Singles!

For today’s single, we’ll be going over a song that, a couple days ago I had on genuine repeat for multiple days.

It’s also DRASTICALLY different than this artists other work, but it is INCREDIBLE.

Today’s song sees Majoras Drep craft a beautiful and melodic break track. Now, this is almost a complete 180 of what Majoras Drep has released, but regardless, you’ll see just how incredible this track is.

Song Info

Title: A New Beginning

Release Date: 26/1/24

Genre: Break(?)

Runtime: 4:09

(Good luck finding this on youtube.)

Artist Lore

So traditionally, Majoras Drep has done a lot of bass music, y’know, like Riddim and Dubstep. (Although I suppose dubstep is kill?)

However, this track was definitely a surprise. Having listened to their Gover EP quite a bit and some appearances on some compilations, I’ve come to expect a certain sound.

However, this track absolutely blew me away.

The Great

The chords are absolutely stellar, and work INCREDIBLE with the breaks. The vocals weaved within the song are also absolutely beautiful as well. Everything comes together nicely to create a well crafted song. While it may not be a rave banger, this is definitely a melodic club vibe.

The Meh

The last 40 seconds???

I can understand a song needs a comedown, but the 20 seconds before the last 40 do it well. The last 40 seconds are just like….

Well, maybe not THAT dramatic but, it just seems unnecessary to me. There’s like a buildup that would SEEM to be what mixes into the next song in the album, but theres no album. It’s just a single. Maybe not an album yet but, still.

Conclusion

Overall, its a really good song, and my gripes with it are just nitpicking I suppose. Overall, this song gets a “dubstep is dead” out of “This is fundamentally different than anything they have released”.

Or, well, its a solid 4/5.

Similar to it

It’s NOT similar, but just so you get an idea of the CHANGE that was made between sounds…
