🍱 Delicacy of the Day
This is by British Creature Skope.
He had a “grand return” earlier this year and I was revisiting his album to see if I could finally get the album of the year.
I have more comments about that in the Daily Drivel but for now I want to focus on a song that got my attention.
Over the past couple of weeks I’ve been yammering on and on about “sound design” like a parrot who ran out of tricks.
The reason behind that is that MOST SONGS ARE STARTING TO SOUND THE SAME.
Granted this is because of the implosion of the genre after being pumped full of people in the pandemic.
But seriously, the more I try to find new artists the less differences I hear.
It seems that most are happy with the good old kick, snare, basic bassline, and shoddily added instruments.
Part and parcel of the “festival music’ pendulum swinging back after a phenomenal “headphone music” run from 2020-2025.
There’s a lot more to be said about the differences but for the sake of this email lets continue.
This is a song that is BUILT to be heard at the comfort of your own home.
Every little sound has been engineered to sound a certain way. That be crunchy, glitchy, or punchy.
There is a lot of care put into the song and you can tell.
If you enjoy “glitchy beats” with a decent amount of “melody” you can’t go wrong with this one.
Njoy.

💭 Quick Drivel
The journey to find the album of the year continues.
It’s really not looking good.
Today I went over 2 albums, so I'll just give micro reviews for those.
It starts off pretty bad. I was about to turn off the whole thing until about song 6 where it got bareable.
Now if this came out in, idk, 2018? This would have been a REALLY good album.
But he’s late to the whole “dubstep party.” It even fell flat at triggering those “nostalgia strings” by hiding the nostalgiabait songs all the way at the back of the album.
Truly an unfortunate situation. Credit where due, the good songs are good, there are some good ideas in there, as dated as they sound.
Not a bad album but not a good one either. Just in the middle.
Wowee, Skope is a name I haven’t heard in YEARS.
This guy used to be at the top of the “future beats” movement back in… 2018-2019.
There was a rumbling towards that genre around those years, but I don’t think it ever really took off.
I listened to his album when it came out in July but thought little of it.
Now one thing is for certain: The sound design is AMAZING.
Also can we just appreciate this incredible album cover?

This reminds me of Asian Mega-cities for some reason
That said, the album feels… disconnected. It’s neither ultra-exciting nor ultra-boring. Another one of those albums that would have been an instant album of the year …in 2018.
Yeah, kinda similar to the review before this. Very odd huh…
The difference is that this one is more of a sound-design showcase. The second half has some INCREDILBE songs that bump up the rating.
I’m sure more people will enjoy this more than I did. Especially if you’re in the “bass music” camp, but to me this is like a YUMMY SNACK.
I’m looking for Michelin-star meals.
In any case, that’s all the music I heard today.
Give those albums a shot and make your own ratings. These reviews shouldn’t scare you away from listening.
Even the 1/10 albums have something YOU may like, and that is the important part.
Go listen to the music.
Always Forward
