I’m having a tough day at the wage cage when a resident sneaks up in front of me.
“Hey, do you remember why I asked you what your favorite animal is?”
I look up to see the same resident who asked that question a couple of days ago.
“Yeah!”
“Well… I made this for you.” She says shyly
She hands me a small item. It looks like…
“It’s Matt the Monkey, here to keep you company.” She says with a big smile.

I stand there speechless. I look at the masterwork with a huge smile of appreciation.
“Thank you! This is very kind!” I say.
“I love making these.” She continues, “I have about a hundred of these in many animals.”
“Wow, have you made a lion yet?” I ask
“No, but I’ll have to make one soon” She says “Anyway, I have to run before the rain starts”
Now I don’t know about you, but this has to be one of the kindest things anyone has ever done in this building.
More, it’s interesting how gifts and small tokens of appreciation are embedded into each of us and it manifests in different forms.
For some it’s helping out, others are always available, and some do their best with their skills.
I asked if she had a store when she came on the way back…
She said no, she only makes them for fun, which is a shame because Matt the Monkey is very well made.
