Sunday Single #14
Welcome to Sunday Singles!
Before we get this party started, yeah, we ARE very late.
HEY BUT THIS TIME WE HAVE AN ALIBI OKAY? Long story short, what was estimated to be an hour long adventure turned out to be a nine hour ordeal.
ANYWAYS, In lieu of that, todays Sunday Single is dedicated to Hz….
Today’s song is a beautiful journey into the downtempo/future garage soundscape. It’s otherworldly, ethereal, and extremely good for thought provoking sessions.

Artist Lore
Menual is no stranger to creating some incredible atmospheric music. Be it future garage, ambient, or downtempo. The sounds of Menual undoubtedly leave the listener in a mood. It’s all dependent how our current outlook plays in tandem with the music. Give his discography a listen and I’m sure you’ll find genuine emotion behind the music.
The Great
I absolutely love the chords, and the other worldly sounds introduced. The sound design in general is incredible. Its got a very moody and futuristic tone. It seems to tread that line of gloomy quite well.
The vocals introduced in the song are perfect, and I think it helps compliment the sound absolutely incredibly.
As I stated above, the sound design, and choice of instruments really help push the moody sound I love from these genre’s.
It’s always a joy to self-reflect and talk to yourself with the mood this sort of music sets. It allows you to dig deep and really find out what can be improved.
The Meh
As the song progresses, it picks up a bit in pace.
While I can understand this may be the natural progression of the song, I can’t help but feel that the slight ramp in tempo takes away from the song a bit.
This is not to say that the song is bad by any means. It still is a very beautifully crafted song, but I could just be used to more moody downtempo/future garage that aims to maintain that moody feel.
Conclusion
This is still a very solid song from Menual, and will be a song that sees continued playtime. I however, still think “Laguna” to be Menual’s best work. I think the atmosphere and vibe captured within “Laguna” to be immaculate.
Regardless though, Flashback is still an incredible song. One that may also lead to some self reflections, or PTSD of a supposed one hour trip that became an eight hour ordeal.
