Sunday Singles #21

(or #22 if you're counting the double take we had last week...)

Welcome to Sunday Singles!

Today’s song is very much, the very essence of Trance music.

Today, we’ll be going back in time to 2001. It was a whole different era of music back then, and Trance music was at (in my opinion) its peak.

I don’t think anything released nowadays captures that vibe and the atmosphere Trance music back then encapsulated.

Many artists both old and new are trying to recreate that vibe and do so to a great degree, but still, something is missing.

Song Info

Title: UNITE! (Airwave Remix)

Release Date: 27/9/01

Genre: Trance

Runtime: 4:15

Artist Lore

Originally written and performed by Japanese Pop Icon Ayumi Hamasaki, this remix comes to us from Belgium’s Airwave. Now, I don’t know much about Airwave, as this is the first song, or in this case “remix” I have heard from him, however, this is just pure art. Upon listening, you’ll understand why…

The Great

I mean where do I even begin…

First off, keeping the essence of the original song, giving space for its lyrics and vocals to expand, and only introducing the full intent of their own spin towards the end, it truly is a masterpiece.

Those quintessential piano chords we’ve all come to love from Trance music, while maintaining the vocals at a distance.

Then that incredible snare roll only for this intense and large Trance atmosphere to come into play is just, EVERYTHING I love about Trance music.

Trance really is about the journey and the emotion music CAN take you on and fill you with, and this song is no different.

There’s also something comforting in the music, as if to tell you that you’re destined for greatness. As I said, Trance music is all about that journey, and the fact that this song from 2001 echoes forth that atmosphere is incredible.

The Meh

There is no meh. This is definitely an unbiased (I LOVE TRANCE MUSIC) review, but it genuinely does not have any faults. To say it would have faults would be splitting hairs, and even then, there really isn’t anything that is meh in regards to this song. This song, along with the entire compilation is an INCREDIBLE labour of love including some top names.

Conclusion

Remember how I sent an email out about “turning your brain off” and just doing something?

Well, turn it back on, listen to this song and dream. Let it take you on that journey. Once you’ve gone on your journey and visualized your end goals, turn your brain back off and just put it into action. Go out there and perform.

10/10

Without a doubt. This has become an absolute anthem for me.

Similar to it

Another one from the compilation, and yet another PHENOMENAL display of Trance Music at it’s best. Another one of my favorites, and yet another anthem from the compilation.
