Sunday Singles #28
Welcome to Sunday Singles!
On todays installment, we’ll be seeing a work of art from a returning guest!
Today’s song is all about the vibe. Its melancholy, yet somewhat upbeat. I guess the name of the song is really reflective of the vibe it gives off.
Expect some deep thoughts, and a longing for the ocean with todays song (you’ll know what I mean when I explain it).

Artist Lore
Sorrow should NOT be a stranger to this platform (I believe we’ve showcased one or two songs from Sorrow here at Dumpster Delicacies). If however, this is your first time listening to Sorrow, please do yourself a favor and browse their discography. It truly is some of the most thought provoking music I have heard, and truly has something for any vibe. Sorrow was a STAPLE during the Dumpster Delicacies office trip to Japan.
The Great
Pensive maintains that quintessential Sorrow sound, yet ups the tempo in comparison to their other songs. Everything about this song just screams Sorrow. Be it the instruments, or the general construction of the song. Sorrow does a phenomenal job of weaving these intricate sounds throughout their entire discography, and Pensive is no different. The subtle vocals, the groovy beat, the mechanical ticking(?) sound.
It’s got a deep sound to it, much like the ocean. The subtle echoing vocals remind of a siren or something you’d hear out in the middle of the ocean, the reverb akin to how it would echo across the sea. The instruments sound far from urban, and so we’ll just say they sound coastal. The song just, very much reminds me of the open ocean. Complete solitude.
The Meh
I think Hz was on to something regarding removing this portion of the review. The only thing I could REMOTELY think of that was “meh” is during the mid portion of the song, where these pseudo trance chords come into play? They don’t sound bad, and quite honestly, grow on me with each repeated listen. It does lend itself to that oceanic feeling with the “trance chords” sorta vibe. Reminiscent of those old school Ibiza vibes (somewhat).
Conclusion
Regardless though, Pensive is a phenomenal journey into something a bit more upbeat for Sorrow, and is very much a welcome one. The ability to incorporate the existing sounds in the varying genres of Future Garage and Downtempo for an upbeat, Lo-Fi house(?) track are incredible. I cannot recommend Sorrow enough, and will still remain was one of the artists I always recommend when people ask for something a bit more calmer.
