Sunday Singles #4
Welcome to Sunday Singles!
Sunday Singles is where either Hz or I will send you a song we believe deserves more than just a quick email, yet cannot be put into an entire dumpster dive.
In our fourth installment, we’ll be going over something that is a bit more “out there”.
But then again, thats the beauty of electronic music right?
Boasting an intricate set of sounds, our song today comes from two artists who have definitely changed sounds when compared to their older songs.
Song Info
Title: XVI
Release Date: 16/2/24
Genre: Good Question (Progressive House/Deep House vibes?)
Runtime: 4:04
Artist Lore
akiaura and LONOWN both have roots in the hardwave and phonk scene and have both collaborated together on numerous occasions, consistently outputting some insane work. XVI is no different, yet this time, they push a FAR different, yet welcomed sound.
The Great
The soundscape found in this song is just incredible. We’ve got some progressive house vibes (?) and these immaculate sounding chords with some nice deep bass to help pull everything together. This definitely feels like a song meant for sunsets. I don’t know why, but this just feels like a last day of summer vibe.
The Meh
It sounds like it belongs in an AMV. You know the ones. Those short anime overedits. If you know, then you know. This isn’t to say its bad, but it just has that sort of vibe. The lyrics are also somewhat edgy/sadboy hours sorta vibe, so if you’re not really into that, then it’ll definitely take away from the song.
Conclusion
This is regardless, probably my new favorite song to come from this collaboration. I think akiaura and LONOWN have both come a long way and have evolved their sound spectacularly. This isn’t to say their old stuff is bad, in fact, its quite good. Just, some artists tend to regress when they “evolve” their sound. This isn’t the case with these two.
