There's weird albums, then theres... this.
One of the weirdest albums of the year.
I’ve been avoiding talking about this.
Not because it’s bad or anything but because it’s just… WEIRD.
For context, this is a person who’s done GENRE DEFINING music.
I’m talking about creating an ENTIRE GENRE of its own (which is coincidentally my favorite)
This guy has quite literally been one of the most influential players in electronic music and he abandoned it all completely to make…
This.
My opinions on it are very very mixed. This is clearly an expression piece. All the lyrics talk about his career and life so far, which is done in a very… artistic way.
Every song in this album sounds experimental and, in my opinion, is a bit… basic.
Of course, songs like Cheerleader and Russian Roulette stand out the most. There’s something reminiscent of the songs he produced back then while mixing in this new style.
But everything else is a guitar base over heavy vocals meant to say something to someone.
My critical recommendation? Give it a listen. Many people online claim this to be an emotional journey, so maybe there’s something to that.
This is a quick one at 40 minutes. I can only recommend it out of respect to the phenomenal music Porter has released in the past.
But on the Hz Score, this is a go-back to electronic out of a mid-life crisis album.
Genre: Porter Robinson lol
Always Forward
