The nostalgia trap
Yes, it's a trap.
There’s no way easy way to say this: Nostalgia may be one of the things keeping you stuck.
But it’s not your fault that you’re stuck in it. Because today's situations look so dire, it’s understandable to look to the past to find peace and solace.
But don’t allow that momentary visit to turn into an excuse to stay stuck.
Truth is reality is only one, and the universe doesn’t care about the past.
Innovation and resiliency make the difference no matter how good “the old stuff” was.
Case in point: Today I went on a “nostalgia trip” to the big room era of 2014-2016 hoping to relive that “golden age” feeling.
But outside of two or three artists (KSHMR, Jay Hardway, Julian Calor), everything was the same dull-sounding party heater—just like today's riddim.
Of course, that’s a very nitpicked argument, but after seeing the non-divers on Reddit yap on about 2012-2016 for yet another month, it’s clear that they are missing out on the genuine innovation currently taking place.
But that is, of course, not you. You are here, even if you only signed up to get music and got a very dumb ramble about nostalgia, lol.
You are experiencing a renaissance in real-time with artists like IMANU, Sorza, Knock2, No Mana, MIRZHA, Space Laces, and many others we’ve sent before.
Yes, things are still a mess. The world is on fire, and you may have problems that aren’t easily fixed.
But that shouldn’t stop you from seeing that problem in the face and telling it “I got this.”
Nostalgia is good for remembering where you came from. But it’s terrible in growing and evolving.
If you want a place to start, look no further than today’s song.
Think of it as the “brick of the day” towards trying something new.
After you’ve listened to it, use that momentum to place another “brick” in a goal you’ve had for a long time.
Keep doing that day by day and you’ll see the castle you’ve built by the end of the year.
But it all begins with a choice: To get out of the past, the web of nostalgia and comfort, and lay the first brick.
As for today's song, this is the Fridee Fire of this week.
Aptly called “scorched earth” as a testament to cleaning house of what’s keeping you stuck.
This is from Virtual Riot, a German Gremlin innovating his sound with every major release. German engineering™️ at it’s finest.
This is the quintessential Fridee starter. Heavy beats, dark sounds, fast tempo.
But not without sending it off with a fantastic ending.
If you have time, give his new album - Stealing Fire - a listen, there’s a lot of good stuff in it, namely Nights on Fire, Star Destroyer, and Stealing Fire.
In any case…
Njoy.
