Maybe I shouldn’t have complained.
It seems plenty of artists agreed to release albums TODAY.
There is a whopping 4 albums I went through.
Here are some rapid fire reviews:
HAAi - DIGITiSE (8/10)
HAAi does some interesting tracks. It’s like IDM but coherent.
This one has club heavier tracks which have great energy.
My only gripe with it is that few songs jump out at you. She seems to have played it a bit safe which makes sense as this sounds like an homage to live events.
Its a stark contrast to last years HUMANiSE.
Swimming Paul - Swimming through the pain (8/10)
This is a collection of tracks he’s released through the year as well as some new ones.
He kept his sound consistent throughout the whole album. There was a dnb song in there but unfortunately the songs tend to blend on each other.
A couple of standout songs but its not something that gets you “lost in sound”
The whole thing is also incredibly short. 14 tracks for 40 minutes is insane hahaha.
ISOxo - HARDCORE DIVA (2/10)
Holy fuck hahahahaha. No clue what is going on here but this feels like one of those prank emails.
Its like they tried to be brutalismus 3000 and failed at it. Like the first 3 songs are so horrible.
WHICH IS HILARIOUS BECAUSE ONE OF THE FEW SONGS I ENJOYED IS WITH BRUTALISMUS 3000.
But everything else is just hellish. This is not even dubstep anymore its like gabber but slow and bad.
WORST album of the year WITHOUT CONTEST.
Effin - Heartbeats. (9/10)
Look, this is the classic effin sounds. Even if it sounds dated it stands out from 90% of everything in the “bass music” industry.
Songs like Pulse and Heartache shows that effin would be better as a house artist, but we have enough of those.
The second half is where the album truly shines.
It’s a good album if you like dubstep.
Chase & Status - Generic Everything (8/10)
Man, about time something good came out from D&B.
This one has an exploration of many D&B subgenrews
Overall its a cool experience with the traditional Chase and Status sound with some new sound mixed in.
This is one of those albums where I think every D&B enjoyer can find something to like.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed those micro-reviews.
Will any of these make top 5 albums of the year? Who knows!
But it seems October is posing to be the best month.
As always, best of fridee below.
Njoy.
