Asia has a wild story with fires and reconstruction.
Every temple I went to on the Grand Adventure had burned down at least once. (Japan had a crazy streak with 5 as the average)
The story follows a similar pattern…
Built in 500.
Burned down in 550 alongside the rest of the town.
Rebuilt by a priest request to the emperor in 600.
Burned down in 650 to some dude leaving a candle on for too long.
Rebuilt by the emperor after a priest asked him to in 700.
Burned down in 750 because it was a bit too hot that day.
Rebuilt in 800 after the emperor (previously a priest) got told to in a dream by a diety.
So on and so forth.
Not a single temple I visited was older than maybe 100 years. I even saw a lot of them undergoing renovations.
Let me show you some breathtaking examples of the temples I saw firsthand:

Kiyomizu-dera (My Favorite Temple) - More than 10 TIMES. Also I have to note that this is all built WITH WOODEN BEAMS TO HOLD THE BALCONIES. Rebuilding this 10+ times must have been a nightmare.
Yakushi-ji - 3 Major times but has been a victim of MULTIPLE fires and disasters.
Haedong Yonggungsa (Favorite Korean Temple) - Burned down once and was left in ruins for uh 300 Y E A R S until they rebuilt it into the most beautiful temple in Busan.
Longhua Temple - 2 times. There was also a huge pagoda but thats for another day.
The inside of the above temple. I gotta tell you man the inside of Chinese temples is so much more detailed and grandiose than in Japan and Korea. It’s WILD how much detail goes into
Look at how beautiful and detailed they still are. None of these is a small temple. A lot of these are the size of a neighborhood.
Especially the Korean one.
What point do I make with these pictures? (other than my inability to take a good one.)
That you will burn down many times.
Whether that's from small fires like getting sick or massive fires like losing someone important to you…
It’s your job as a loyal priest (no one else will do it for you) to rebuild BETTER.
And through self-devotion and strength from God (or the higher power of your flavor) you WILL build back better for decades to come.

It seems things are cooling down as the year comes to an end. It’s a good time to prepare for the next one tbh.

P.S. Yeah despite the concerning emails it seems the worst has passed. It feels good to listen to music again oh my lord. I was having withdrawals. Music sounds better after a couple days without it, dang.
P.P.S Am I piggybacking Hyperoxia’s email yesterday? NOPE. It just seems the stars aligned this way. I wrote this while on the fever haze a couple hours before Hyperoxia sent the email. This email took about 3 hours to write.
